Overview

About this course

IDDA’s diploma develops digital orthodontic and aligner knowledge for dentists who want to build on existing clinical training. Adam Nulty and Patrik Zachrisson lead the programme.

Twelve-module curriculum

  • Orthodontic foundations: tooth movement, malocclusion, facial/intraoral assessment and space analysis.
  • Digital records and planning: intraoral scanning, radiography, photography, smile analysis and restorative sequencing.
  • Special investigations, digital consent, simulated treatment planning and monitoring.
  • Fixed appliances: brackets, bonding, archwires, auxiliaries, debonding and introductory advanced mechanics.
  • Clear aligners: case selection, staging, digital setup, model printing and in-house production.
  • Retention and consent, covering fixed and removable options and relapse planning.
  • 3D-printer setup, benefits and orthodontic applications.
  • End-to-end aligner manufacture and delegation.
  • Functional appliances and interceptive orthodontics.
  • Advanced aligner movement, attachments, elastics and staging.
  • More complex fixed-appliance treatment, self-ligation, lingual appliances and temporary anchorage.
  • Interdisciplinary adult orthodontics, facial aesthetics, restorative sequencing and surgical planning.

Study is flexible, with an intended completion period of 18 months to three years. Online videos, readings, clinical examples, quizzes and written assignments support learning. The qualification requires completion of the programme’s learning and assessment requirements. The IDDA app supports offline video access, and a learning community provides continuing discussion and guidance.

The published equipment requirements include an intraoral scanner, a laptop with at least 32 GB RAM and GeForce 3070-class graphics or better, a 3D printer and Exocad. Desktop Health or Ackuretta printers are suggested. Confirm which licences, equipment and any practical attendance costs are included before enrolling.

The upfront online-content fee is £7,995. The alternative of 36 monthly payments of £235 totals £8,460. VAT treatment is not stated. Confirm any extra practical training and equipment charges.

The page specifies 120 AGD PACE continuing-education credits and states that enhanced CPD is awarded for completed modules and topics. Confirm the UK enhanced-CPD total and certificate requirements.
