MSc Endodontology with Postgraduate Certificate and Diploma Routes

simplyendo delivers this University of Chester-validated programme through successive postgraduate stages. The ten-day foundation course is integral to Year 1 and cannot simply be skipped. Successful students can leave after Year 1 with a Postgraduate Certificate, after Year 2 with a Postgraduate Diploma, or complete the dissertation for the MSc.

Year 1: principles, treatment and referral endodontics

• Add six assessed attendance days to the ten-day foundation programme. Study disease biology, diagnosis, case complexity, consent, curved-canal preparation, glide paths, irrigation and instrument selection.
• Develop anaesthesia and pain-management knowledge, apical preparation and obturation techniques, including thermal and single-cone approaches.
• Review retreatment, coronal restoration, posts and cores, trauma, resorption, vital pulp treatment, instrument removal and procedural repair.
• Assessment includes a 2,500-word literature review, staged case presentations, a short-answer paper, OSCE and viva.

Year 2: advanced study and microscopy

• Twelve teaching days cover innovations in endodontics, research methods/statistics and endodontic microscopy.
• Hands-on learning uses microscopes, 2D/3D imaging and obturation systems. Topics include MTA, perforations and open apices, sclerosed canals, resorption and fractured-instrument retrieval.
• Assessment includes a 5,000-word review, a 5,000-word research proposal, case presentations and an OSCE.
• Days 1–6 may be attended online; days 7–10 can also be online if the student has an appropriate microscope. Confirm remaining attendance requirements.

Year 3: dissertation

• Approximately 12 months of research/dissertation work, with no routine on-campus attendance required.
• Ten hours of individual supervision and four webinars addressing the module, ethics, writing, data collection and analysis.
• Recordings are available for missed live webinars; relevant equipment at Formby can support experimental projects.

Published stage fees are £11,350 for Year 1 including the £6,250 foundation course, £9,300 for Year 2 and £6,250 for Year 3. These are stage prices, not a guaranteed fixed fee for every future year. Year 1 explicitly includes VAT; confirm tax treatment for later stages. Materials and university fees are included as described for each stage. Online materials may incur postage; Year 1 reassessments cost £180 including VAT per 20-credit module.

Registration for postgraduate stages is by enquiry. Year 2 starts each autumn; confirm your entry cohort and timetable. January 2027 dates appearing in the site booking banner relate to the foundation course, not automatically to the extra postgraduate days. Academic credits are not CPD hours; ask for your stage’s CPD allocation.
