Advanced Occlusion and Wax-up (Aspire)

Aspire Dental Academy combines occlusal assessment with practical recording and wax-up work. Teaching covers jaw muscles and joints, parafunction, centric relation, leaf gauges, Lucia jigs, splints and restorative planning.

Assessment, records and treatment planning

Teaching examines static and dynamic occlusion, open bites, crossbites, terminal-tooth loading, parafunction and changes associated with wear or altered vertical dimension. Assessment includes the temporomandibular joints, muscles and intraoral contacts.

Record-taking covers centric relation, centric occlusion, initial contact, leaf gauges and Lucia jigs. Articulator teaching includes facebows, settings, customised incisal guidance tables and communicating these requirements to a technician. Splint designs and indications are also discussed.

Practical exercises

Delegates take facebow and jaw records on one another, mount models and adjust articulators. Technician-guided exercises develop anterior and posterior wax-ups, customised guidance tables and changes to laboratory wax-ups.
