Advanced Operative Aesthetic and Restorative Dentistry (Aspire)

Aspire Dental Academy's 13-day London programme combines restorative case discussion with practical exercises. The syllabus spans smile assessment, shade and bleaching, photography, anterior and posterior composites, veneers, crowns, onlays, tooth wear and replacement of missing teeth.

Programme content and practical work

• Assessment, smile design and patient management, including diagnosis, prognosis and treatment planning.
• Clinical photography: camera and flash choices, settings, contrastors, polarising filters and softbox images.
• Anterior composites: anatomy, bonding, wax-ups, layered effects, margin blending, diastema closure, veneers and polishing.
• Ceramic veneers: material selection, guided and freehand preparation, impressions, provisionals, cementation and immediate dentine sealing.
• Anterior crowns: e.max, dentine-bonded and metal-ceramic preparations, bur control, temporisation and soft-tissue management.
• Posterior composites: Class I/II anatomy, sculpting, staining, isolation, sectional and circumferential matrices, occlusion and sensitivity.
• Posterior indirect restorations: onlays, crowns, margin elevation, cement choice, posts, cores and assessment of restorability.
• Tooth wear and rehabilitation: conformative versus reorganised planning, vertical dimension, facebows, articulators, build-ups, splints and Lucia jigs.
• Missing teeth: resin-bonded, fixed-moveable, fixed-fixed and fibre-reinforced bridges, pontic sites and denture design.
• Consolidation through further practical work, multidisciplinary cases, maintenance, fees, referral and managing failures.

Most operative teaching blocks combine approximately 70% practical work with 30% theory. Exercises include preparations, impressions, provisional restorations, composite build-ups and laboratory communication.
