Dental Photography: One-Day Hands-On Course (DENTER)

DENTER combines online preparation with a practical day on clinical photography in Bloomsbury, London. The course covers consistent exposure, lighting and colour, standard clinical views, portraits and cross-polarised shade communication.

Group size is capped at 12. It suits beginners and clinicians seeking more consistent images for laboratory communication, orthodontic records, case presentations and treatment planning. Phone-only photography is not covered.

Photographic workflow

Practical work develops a standard AACD/BACD image series, consistent exposure and colour, cross-polarisation, contrastors and communication of shade to the laboratory. Further topics include orthodontic records, portrait and extraoral views, case presentation and teaching the dental team to follow the same photographic protocol.

Preparing and attending

Complete the online preparation before the practical day. A dedicated DSLR or mirrorless camera is needed; phone-only photography is outside the course scope. If you do not yet have a camera, ask Ian about equipment before booking; a limited number of loan kits are available.

The venue is Thistle London Holborn, Bloomsbury Way, London WC1A 2SD. Arrival is from 9am, teaching starts at 9:30am, lunch is scheduled for 1–2pm and the day finishes around 5pm. Groups are limited to twelve. Dental therapists and hygienists may attend; nurse-only training is arranged separately.
