Overview

About this course

Chris Waith’s workshop takes place at MANDEC on 28–29 January 2027 and is suitable for dentists at different experience levels. Practical work uses pig heads, models and phantom heads rather than delegate treatment of live patients.

Extraction planning and technique

Relate anatomy to assessment and choose appropriate instruments, sutures and haemostatic materials. Practise luxation, elevation, forceps use, sectioning, flap design, bone removal and progression from straightforward to more difficult extractions.

Wisdom teeth and risk assessment

Classify impactions, plan approaches around the inferior dental canal and lingual nerve, and consider the consequences of treatment or non-treatment. Discuss medical conditions, physical reserve, ASA assessment and when referral is appropriate.

Infection, anaesthesia and ridge preservation

Review sepsis, dentoalveolar infection and antimicrobial stewardship. Revisit nerve anatomy, inferior dental blocks and infiltration, causes of failed anaesthesia and communication with anxious patients. Ridge-preservation teaching covers patient suitability, materials, planning and execution.

Preparation and follow-up

The description lists eight hours of online preparation, two hands-on days and eight hours of online follow-up. The course page separately advertises 28 CPD hours; do not infer the certificate allocation from attendance duration. Confirm how the online elements are assessed and counted.

The dentist fee is £1,449, with VAT treatment and catering or equipment inclusions to be confirmed. The university building is the venue; this is independently organised training.
